Artistic background

Maria Rosaria D’Alessio
I was Born 1954 in Bedford - UK, of Italian parents. I studied Dress Design & Clothing Technology at
Barnfield
College of Art & Technology, Luton, Beds., Debuting in my Finals at the London
Academy of
Art.
I worked as assistant-designer & then designer for
various companies in London, including Inega Jeans Ltd. Life circumstance
later brought me to my parent's country of origin, Italy, where I am now a
permanent resident.
A variety of subjects can inspire my work and I like to use various media:
pencil, charcoal, pastels, ink, watercolor, oil, acrylic.
I have always had a strong passion for drawing and painting & ever since I can
remember
Drawing applying colour and expressive forms of all kinds have always fascinated me immensely. I
began
drawing exceptional superboy comic strips at the very early age of four.
A passion for drawing & painting has continued to inspire me throughout the
years and drive me to create in various forms. I am happiest when I put pencil or colour to paper or canvas, wood or other supports. I choose a variety of subjects, however, the most frequent are landscapes, abstracts, people/faces.
Aside from my dress designing studies & work experiences, in the art of painting a
“picture” I am mostly self-taught, although in recent years I have attended
seminars and coaching lessons from professional artists.
I am forever in awe of the works of all the great masters of our time, however,
I also adore the contemporary painters, such as modern realism,
postmodernism, all prima and abstract painters alike. I may find inspiration
from a variety of painting styles and a variety of subjects or events.
Composition or subject can be inspired even by a word or a thought. “Big
Brother” was inspired by a conversation and thoughts on the ever increasing
popularity for "reality" shows especially amongst the younger generations…
hence… big brother… a man… looks on through a window to spy the everyday
life of the inhabitant, within.
