Gillian Rymer
UCKFIELDArtistic background
I studied art and illistration at Camberwell School Of Artfrom 1961-1965 where I was taught by Euan Uglo,Michael Rothenstein and Antony Eyton among others
Life drawing, printmaking and painting
I am mainly interested in portraying characters
The hop paintings originate from stories my grandmother told me about her holidays
in the hop fields and the various characters she encountered there.
The children's games are from my own childhood memories of the games we played when children could play in the street; hop scotch, leap frog and marbles etc.
The bag ladies are to me the most fascinating characters of the present day and are one of my favourite subjects.
