Artistic background

James Walker was founder member of the influential rock band PIL. The band has had a huge influence on their many fans around the world.
In July 2023, James' artwork title London Town was selected for display at London Art Biennale on King's Road, Chelsea, SW3.
This artwork inspired him as the theme was London and the era was 1960's and 1970's. Despite the political unrest of the era, there was an individuality and freedom that seems to be in short supply in the 21st century.
James finds and selects images of the era , topic and location so it is like going back in time and then James layers the images on to board or painted canvas and then the effect is a collage of a very compelling period in history.
This artwork London Town is featured in an article from the online magazine, Culture Calling (London Calling) from July 2023.
When James was in Amsterdam many years ago, he was taken to the Rikjsmuseum where he was astonished by the amazing art of Rembrandt, Vermeer and others. Especially stunned by the Night Watch. The people in the painting felt so alive, James really felt this strongly, and had never been exposed to this type of high quality art before.
James' other artworks are topics such as war, (WW1, WW2, American Civil war and Vietnam war),socio- political such as 9/11 and London Riots 2011.
As well as pop culture (London) as London is where James lives and he finds the city fascinating, it is so vibrant and lively.
