Artistic background

Melanie is an artist living in the Cotswolds. Her impressionistic painting style focuses on the wholesomeness and beauty of the land, sea and sky around us and capturing the fullness of depth within the forms that exist within them.
Melanie completed her Fine Art degree at the University of Gloucestershire in 2008 before continuing to study a Master’s degree in Urban Design at Birmingham City University, graduating from this in 2009.
Melanie takes her inspiration from many of today’s current landscape artists including David Tress, John Hammond and Matthew Alexander, but also from landscape masters including Constable and Turner. Melanie won the under 25s category for the Broadway Arts Festival open art competition and since has exhibited locally around Gloucestershire and Worcestershire and has been featured as a wild card artist on Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year 2022 (series 7) and 2024 (series 8). Most recently Melanie was selected as a finalist at the Broadway Arts Festival 2023 and invited to exhibit her painting “Boats waiting, Beer” at the annual competition exhibition at the beautiful Bretforton Theatrebarn.

Interests

I love to take walks and bike rides through the countryside. I prefer being outdoors, whether it's walking my dog or painting in the garden, or being on or next to water. I enjoy an eclectic mix of music and find this can sometimes steer the direction of my painting in one way or another.
