Artistic background

Rod Corston is a Photographer and Photography tutor with forty years’ experience in analogue and digital imaging

He was born in Newcastle on Tyne and developed an interest in photography in his late teens. Like so many other photographers, he began his career using only traditional 'wet techniques' and every photograph was hand-printed to exacting standards in his own darkroom. However, when faced with increased costs and the very real difficulty in obtaining 'traditional materials', he moved on to incorporate digital printing systems into his work.

Whilst still shooting film, Rod processed and scanned the negatives, carried out post-processing in Adobe Photoshop. He then left the darkroom and jumped into the world of digital printing using Epson Printers and inks.

He has long favoured Landscape Photography and Street Photography, working in Colour and Monochrome.

His work reveals time spent in Yorkshire, Cumbria, the West Coast of Scotland, The Isle of Skye, Newcastle and the North Northumberland Coast. Plus street images shot in New York, Paris and London.

As for equipment, he stills shoots film using 35mm Nikons, Leica’s and for medium format a Hasselblad 500C and a 500CM. Film based images in this gallery have been shot on the following film stock:

Ilford FP4 (125 ASA)
Ilford HP5 (400 ASA)
Ilford PAN F (50 ASA)
Kodak TMAX400
Kodak High Speed Infrared

Digital work has been shot mostly on Nikon DSLR’s, a Leica M9, a Panasonic GX8 and a Fuji XT-2. Usually in colour / Raw format and later converted to Black and White in Photoshop and more recently, ON-1 Photo Raw and Affinity Photo 2.

Rod currently teaches digital photography workshops and Photoshop Editing workshops and is based in the Peterborough area.
