STROUDArtistic background
Born in 1958 into an artistic family I was compelled to draw from an early age. From that beginning I have always been attracted to the creative process which underlies so much of life. With this awareness I am constantly inspired. In 1974 I trained as a Display Artist specialising in textiles. My early working life was spent working with fabrics by manufacturers such as Liberty and Sanderson. This work involved showing a wide variety of textiles to best advantage in order to encourage people to make their own unique clothing. The settings were windows, indoor fixtures and numerous mannequins throughout the stores of the Gordon Thoday Fabric Empire, which thrived in the 1970’s. My mentor was the multi- talented Lennie Raybould in whose hands anything seemed to turn effortlessly into a stunning display.
Starting with a blank canvas –the empty window -I learned how to drape, ruche and panel fabric to present a theme for all to enjoy. This work was an excellent grounding in the art of three dimensional grouping, colour theory, shape and form plus of course lighting.
Further along the road a move to a rural area, steeped in the creative vibe, I experimented with watercolours and soft pastel paintings. Taking part in group exhibitions led to sales and commissions.
After having my three children I worked in several different schools as a visiting artist, supporting the teaching staff and children with ideas based around various projects, ranging from simple drawing techniques to three dimensional set designs.
These experiences led me to mixed media and experimental work, some of which has involved using acetate, glass paint and acrylics, with fabrics from India. I found glass paints to be a versatile medium and when used with the high gloss quality of acetate, the three dimensional possibility brought me full circle, to include textiles and textures, with the endless possibilities of combining paints and materials of all kinds.
Consequently my work has sometimes included fabrics combined with mixed media. This results in a complete freedom to create richly decorated works, including painted glass- like butterflies and flowers. This unique and exciting technique brings the energy of reflected light to the creative process and beyond.
I have been with an online UK Art Gallery for several years and have been included as a best selling artist. This gallery specialises in original art and limited edition prints.
Living in a very creative Town in Gloucestershire UK my work is also selling in a local shop specialising in unique arts and crafts.
Walking in The Cotswold countryside with my daughter and my Dog Pippin is my absolute joy and inspires me every day to create nature in art. My hope is that sharing this work with a wider audience will bring colour and happiness into the life of anyone who enjoys the pleasure and uplifting quality of original design.

Interests
I love walking in the Gloucestershire countryside with my little dog Pippin, all the while gathering inspiration from the natural world.I also love to knit and crochet which I learned many years ago from my mother. It's wonderful to see so many young people taking an interest in these traditional crafts and skills once more.
Also I have practiced yoga for many years in which I have a foundation qualification from the BWY.
My first love is art and I so enjoy trying new ways of working, always experimenting with the endless materials we are lucky to have available to us.
