Artistic background

I came to art later on in life following a successful ongoing career as a NHS doctor. I have grown up around art as a child as my mother was an artist and teacher. My love affair with art started after a holiday to Cornwall where I was taken aback with the range of colours, shapes and self expression that was evident in the paintings I immersed myself in. I have a deep love of the abstract expressionism movement which is evident in my work. I primarily see myself as a non figurative artist rather than an abstract painter as I believe true abstraction involves taking apart a figurative subject and reassembling it to suit one’s will. I however prefer to focus on what comes from within to express myself artistically, intellectually and spiritually to create aesthetically appealing works. I like to paint on a large scale focusing on shapes and colour, allowing the viewer to immerse themselves in a continent of colour. I spend my time between Cornwall and the countryside of the midlands, drawing inspiration from both.
