Artistic background

My name is Emma. I am very new to the world of art, and I am very grateful for you to be looking at my work/collection. Even though I have had some questions in regard to the pivot in my career, my love and passion for the arts has always existed in all I have done.

For 20 years I dedicated my carer to education and schooling. I started by training as a classroom aide to progressing to an Additional learning needs teacher and a collage lecturer. All whist studying at the University of Winchester and the University of South Wales, Newport.

Working with those with Additional learning needs holds a special place in my heart and is something that had kept me going for so long. Being able to inspire through different mediums of art, from art therapy to photography projects and local art competitions. My aim was to make the arts inclusive and accessible for all, be it through marks on a canvas or adapting cameras.

Since leaving the world of education mostly due to ill health and a string of chemotherapy treatments I have relied ever more on the arts to motivate me through this gruelling time. With this reliance the opportunity has arisen to change my career. The difficulties that came with hospital visits and regular chemotherapy I really started to appreciate the beauty that stands just on my doorstep. Travelling to the typical beauty spots around Wales. From the highest mountain tops of the Brecon Beacons to the ever-stretching coastlines of the Gower during my hardest times these locations felt a world away.

Despite this I am lucky enough to live in a small Welsh valley that is bursting with history, forests and only a hop skip and a jump from the coastlines that are so often overlooked.

Over the last few years, I have developed my skills and accumulated a collection of photos that I have enjoyed being able to sell via the typical car boot sales, craft fairs, my online social media profiles and free lancing with local businesses.

This has inspired me to attempt in taking my art that step further. Though I enjoy the expression and dynamic in my ‘Happy Snapping’ I wanted to share something a little more ‘special’. Something you won’t find mass printed or mass produced. The pictures I upload here I have taken a little more time and care in developing the uniquities so that each photo is a ‘one off’.

In these aesthetic photographs you will find my medium/approach using the nature within and around less known Welsh locations, with carefully thought-out edits, enhancements as well as thought provoking subjectivity with some even embracing the poetic nature of the Welsh language.
