Artistic background

I'm Roja. I’m a mixed media artist based in the UK.
I studied Dramatic Literature at university due to my interest in art and media.
In 2014, I completed a short course in textile design at a private institute. I then worked for a short time in a private fabric studio in Tehran, Iran, contributing to the production and design of handmade crafts.
I specialise in combining elements of painting, hand stitching, beading, block printing and dyeing on fabrics to create my works.
I truly enjoy experimenting with different styles and materials. I’ve got a massive love for textile and colourful threads.
After spending a few years with mixed media, I developed my own style and process, which I call Thread Painting.
Each work is infused with my signature abstract style.
I usually find inspiration in nature and life experiences.
As an introverted and not particularly cheerful person, I often choose calming subjects, colours, and forms in creating my works to calm myself.

Interests

I enjoy listening to music and traveling to immerse myself in different cultures, customs and foods.
As a Persian, I am keen on Persian poetry, particularly the works of Omar Khayyam and Rumi .
