Noreen Kennedy
WicklowHi, I’m Noreen,
I paint in oils. I have tried acrylics but found the end result had too much of a plastic look and feel.
I have worked with watercolours .
I learned watercolours from Barbara Nechis.
Her style is clean, and she constantly challenges the versatility of the medium.
I hope produce something nice in watercolour before too long.
Artistic background
I grew up in the Irish countryside.I attended a Convent school where the highest form of artistic endeavour was the successful turning a heel in a sock or maybe a well sewn patch, using a run and fell seam.
I absconded to Paris in the 1970’s and enrolled at the Sorbonne, Cours de Civilisation Francaise.
I lived on the Boulevard St German with a lovely family.
For a year, I chased up the Boulevard St.German to the Sorbonne to catch my first lecture at 8am.
My teachers were enthusiastic and passionate about their subjects….. language, art, literature.
You dared not confuse your Manet with your Monet . The pronunciation of Ingres will be forever etched in my brain.
Free afternoons where spent across the Seine, on the Right Bank visiting art galleries .
The Louvre, I considered a bit too touristy, and I had no patience to queue.
Raoul Dufy was a big favourite of mine and also a much lesser known artist Pierre Lelong.
Quote
Of course, I don't go onto the studio with the idea of 'saying' something – that's ludicrous. What I do is face the blank canvas, which is terrifying.Richard Diebenkorn
Interests
I love to frame my pictures.I have an underpinner and cutter.
I use nice wooden lengths of wood, pre painted .
Framing is a nice distraction from the intensity of painting .
It is a bit like carpentry, you produce something useful.
I am also a very keen golfer. I love to hit a golf ball right in the “sweet spot “ It is a sound to remember.
I have a hero golfer, her name is Joyce Wethered.
She competed in the early 1920’s , woolly cardi, skirt and all.
She later married and became Lady Heathcote Amory, bowed out of golf when it became a bit, ‘common’
She concentrated on developing the gardens at Knightshayes Court, Tiverton,Devon.
Strolling down a fairway is always a joy. I hope to paint those moments before too long.
