Postage Stamp Collage
This picture is composed of approximately 3,000 used postage stamps. I have used several of Lichtenstein’s Pop Art women as a starter for a variety of problems I wished to tackle. This one presented me with the question –‘How do I create Ben-Day dots?’ Lichtenstein was able to use the industrial method of silk screen printing. I do not have that facility so I purchased four pieces of zinc plate with different size holes drilled into the sheet. I used one of these plates with red acrylic paint applied with a sponge resulting in a red and pink mess smudged over a large area of canvas. Back to square one and hand produced ‘dots’ with a set of permanent ink pens. The rest as they say is glued down postage stamps.
