Description
Briefly about me as an artist: I grew up on the sea.. I am sick of the sea.. I paint the sea...
Art is an important tool in teaching history. paintings can communicate an abundance of information about historical events and legends.
Flying Dutchman - death or fata morgana?
This is a legendary ghost ship, which is doomed to eternal sailing for the sins of the captain. Even in calm, he flies at great speed, and meeting with him means inevitable death.
Sailors don't believe in the Flying Dutchman. They consider him just a beautiful legend. At the same time, brave sailors still believe that there is some mystical force on the sea that periodically destroys ships. It takes different forms - storms, calm, sea monsters. The Flying Dutchman is just one of the manifestations of this terrible force.
Some sailors saw him at sea. It is very easy to explain these meetings. This is where fata morgana, a very rare form of mirage, comes to the rescue. It occurs when several layers of air with different temperatures are formed. In this case, you can see objects that are far beyond the horizon line. Or even some fantastic images. Here it is - the clue to the "Flying Dutchman".
