Description
A typically traditional seascape depicting the voyage made by Francis Drake in the 16th century. Circumnavigating the globe in a small ship of about 90 feet in length Drake had left Plymouth in Devon England in December 1577 with other ships. The Golden Hind was the only ship to complete the circumnavigation returning to England 3 years later. Depicted here having safely survived a storm which had blown the ship 300 miles to the south of Cape Horn in October 1578.
