The Blue Lagoon was formerly St Brides slate quarry, which operated during the 19th century when Pembrokeshire was a hot-spot in the slate mining industry. After the quarry was shut down in 1910, the the seaward wall of the quarry was blasted open by fisherman in order to flood the mine and provide refuge for their boats.
