Description
Two of the most famous tea clippers racing back to London with their cargoes of tea. This race between the two ships is well known and the ship that was thought to be the fastest didn´t win! The Cutty Sark lost her rudder in a storm in the Indian Ocean when she was in the lead and lost a week whilst a replacement rudder was made and fitted. The Cutty Sark is preserved in a dry dock today although had extensive restoration after a serious fire onboard recently. The Thermopylae was torpedoed in 1917.
Painted in a traditionally authentic style typical of the mid 20th century with a combination of detail and movement.
Supplied frame in a carefully selected hand finished bespoke frame, exterior frame size: 74 x 115 cm. Ready to hang.
