Description
This painting is a tribute to the bravery of Life-boat men. February 1936 marked the end of an era, when "Wells Next the Sea," in Norfolk, replaced their old life boat " Baltic " with a new one, "The Royal Silver Jubilee" which would be launched by caterpillar tractors. Thus ending the iconic sight of horses being used to pull the lifeboat through the streets, and across the sands to be launched in all weathers. An era when at the sound of the alarm farmers raced with their horses to be the first to arrive, and claim their bonus of five shillings.
