Postage Stamp Collage
In creating this collage, I captured the essence of iconic allure as through a pop art lens. This portrait of Elizabeth Taylor created from over 3000 postage stamps is loosely in the style of Warhol’s ‘Marilyn’. Elizabeth’s dark hair is represented by 5p dark blue Machin definitive stamps and in the background gold first class stamps have been used. The more modern of these uses a large 1st class stamp which does not easily blend with the other stamps and has therefore been used liberally – solidly on the right hand side and chequer board fashion to the left. There is a lighter blue softness immediately as an outline to the face, light blue outer eye and light green eye shadow adding touches of colour to her wide eyed almost calculating, starkly, staring features.
