Postage Stamp Collage
In creating this piece, I entered a world of surreal symbolism, using collage to evoke the uncanny and the enigmatic. The reference to “Dali Left the Door Ajar” is simply that to the left side of Dali a door is open allowing his audience to view outside. Upon further examination however the top of the door resembles the screw thread of a glass jar within which the clouds frame a flock of birds flying towards the setting sun. His patchwork of themes continues with references to another of his works ,“ The Hallucinogenic Toreador “, where death is represented by the dying toreador, dying flowers, petrified flies within a bull ring, implicitly the bull fighter or bull. Venus is trapped within the jar - having no arms therefore without means of escape even though the door is not locked but actually ajar. This artwork will infuse your space with intellectual curiosity and a rainbow of emotions, provoking thought and wonder. 2400 used postage stamps were used to create this artwork.
