The Gods within, representing our virtuous qualities, are engaged in an unending fight with the demons in our minds, representing our vices and dark impulses. There exists a constant tug-of-war between the forces of light and dark, as we strive to achieve an ideal equilibrium in our lives. This quest for balance and inner peace may be one of the most challenging endeavours of all. It seems rare to find a person who considers themselves to be truly and completely satisfied in all respects. The painting appears to capture this universal human condition of restlessness and the search for harmony between the opposing forces within us.
