Description
Nostalgic memories of lovely afternoon walks on the beach with the sound of seagulls and oyster catchers flying overhead inspired this peaceful seascape. The painting expresses a tranquil beach at low tide and embodies the serene whispers of the ocean. The painting is impressionistic in style and created and the textures of the rocks are crafted with sand from the beach mixed into the paint. It captures the wildness of the coast and sea on a calmer day where land meets sky. It will infuse any space with a calm, yet spirited energy, a reminder of a quiet day on the beach.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created in mixed media on a deep edge canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing, I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, it is signed on the back, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.
