Description

This painting began as a small sketch I did whilst travelling in the Tabernas desert in Spain's south-eastern province of Almería. The landscape is a sun-baked terrain, an arid expanse creating a wilderness of untamed beauty and peace. Walking in this hot, vast landscape, I noticed a small bird resting in the middle of a thistle. Hence the title of the painting.
The resilience of such a tiny bird suddenly exposed feelings of solitude and one's frailty in the desert terrain.
