Japanese Lanterns Acrylic

McCullocks's aluminium resin paintings are constructed in layers. Initially in a gestural manner, then becoming more complex with each layer. By adding colour and cells she partly obscures the metal base. The final layer is purely creating the high gloss finish - the defining indicator of Rachel's work.

Rich deep orange and yellows of this piece are mood enhancing and very aesthetically pleasing. Coloured textures and metal leaf have been placed between the many layers of resin, and the aluminium panel which has been scribed is partially visible. This serves to produce a 3- dimensional image and a wow factor.

The aluminium panel has been firmly adhered to a slimline canvas whose sides have been sprayed red - thus alleviating the need to frame. Signed and sealed on the reverse, and supplied with hardware, ready to hang immediately.

The name pays homage to the land of the rising sun.
