Description
Inspired by an ancient woodland near my home this beautiful painting evokes an ethereal and dreamlike landscape, creating a narrative of emotion and contemplation through a blend of colour, light, and form. It is a mesmerizing exploration of hidden sanctuaries within the natural world, and a pathway through delicately arching trees, to a peaceful place. Upon first glance, viewers are drawn into a lush, verdant scene that seems to exist in a realm untouched by time. The interplay of light and shadow is particularly evocative crafted with a palette of rich greens, deep blues, and subtle creamy hints suggestive of blossoms and forest flowers, creating a sense of freshness and a curiosity to delve further into the woodland.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a deep edge canvas that does not need a frame. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife, harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies on the intersection between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, it is signed on the side and is ready to hang.
