Description
Winning painting in the Waltham Abbey, Art Trail, 2024
In situ frame for illustrative purposes only.
In this self-portrait, I wanted to capture more than just my physical likeness—I sought to depict the place where my creativity takes root and flourishes. Sitting at my well-used easel, I’m surrounded by marks and splatters, each a testament to past projects and moments of inspiration. The easel, worn and scarred, carries the story of countless completed works, grounding me in every new creative endeavor.
The earthy palette of rich ochres reflects the warmth and groundedness of my studio. Bathed in a soft glow of artificial light, the room feels focused and intimate. This light creates an intentional atmosphere—it marks time spent in contemplation, hours refining details, and moments of clarity deep into the night. Shadows cast by the light give depth to the space, adding a sense of timelessness and dedication.
Finished works surround me, each piece a reflection of my evolving journey. They stand as milestones, marking exploration, growth, and the culmination of countless hours of thought and effort.
This self-portrait is about authenticity—showing the real essence of a creative life. There’s no pretense, just the raw and rewarding experience of making art. It’s a story of hard work, embracing imperfections, and balancing tradition with a constant drive for growth. Through this painting, I invite viewers into my world to see not only who I am as an artist but everything that drives and defines my passion.
