Description
Of all the images taken by The Hubble Telescope of nebulae, released by NASA; that of The Witches Cauldron must be the most beautiful and charismatic. With its rose coloured outer swirls enveloping a milky white center with a black dot in the middle, which is, in fact, a Black Hole. It captivates the eye and gives inspiration; yet has a certain charm and softness too. As a small speck of light in the night sky; it gives no hint that it could have been a sun in its past or might be a mass of cosmic dust forming into new stars. It deserves to be seen by the unaided eye, not just with the help of a large telescope.
I have worked it in egg tempera which dries quite quickly. This enabled me to apply many thin veils of colour to bring out and enhance the subtleties and nuances of this “heavenly body”
This is painted using an ancient traditional method of Tempera
