Description
I adore sea turtles, not only are they adorable they're also very majestic! I started off by finding inspiration, I collected a bunch of photos. Then I mapped out my outline making sure it was spot on before adding any colour, using my polychrome pencils I lightly added the warm undertones of the shell and started adding darker colours for texture. Using my ceramic blade I scratched out any parts that I may have made too dark, then I went onto the cool undertones of the his lovely belly! Using water colour pens I blotted on some details and smudged them to give the illusion of movement. I then went in with very dark pencils for around the face as I wanted that and the fin to feel like it was closest to the viewer!
Then using acrylic paint I filled in the scary white space and created the under sea scene, so my little friend could be where he belongs! :) I added some finishing turtles, including some white highlights(very important!) and some beams of light and wallah!
This mixed media piece will come in a beach wood frame. It measures 42 by 60cm, so will definitely brighten up any space!
I can't wait to find a home for this fellow turtle 😊
