Description
This French island, with its picturesque landscapes, has long been a source of inspiration for artists. During the 1870s and 1880s, French Impressionist painter Claude Monet captured the dramatic rock formations of Belle-Île in a series of paintings. When first exhibited in Paris in 1887, these works, including The Storm, Coast at Belle-Île, and Cliffs at Belle-Île (both painted in 1886), left the art world astounded. This oil painting on canvas draws inspiration from the Impressionist movement and depicts the same scenery that Monet immortalized during his many stays on the island."
