Description
A Hanemuhle glicee quality german paper print of a watercolour picture. The subject is an Electra L188, operating in the late 60's livery of Ansett Australia Airlines.
The scene is of a small rural airport on a hot sunny day. The Electra is powered up for take off. This aircraft had a shakey begining, suffering 4 fatal accidents in a short period of time. Once the problems had been resolved, it proved to be a versatile and efficient jetprop aircraft. Unfortunately, it had arrived on the scene just before the advent of short range jet airliners. As a result of the accidents and growing customer preference for jet equipment, only 140 were sold to civil carriers worldwide.
It's position on the front line did not last long, even though on short runs such as New York - Washington, it proved to be as fast or even faster than the competing jets. It could cruise at 400 mph and at lower levels than the Boeing 727 and BAC 1-11. All 3 major Australian airlines operated it in limited numbers, these being Qantas, TAA & Ansett.
This is a limited edition print...3 of 3.
