Description
"By Silver Moonlight" comes from a lovely birch wood near my home in the Peak District. When the moon is full you can walk in the evening and it feels almost as light as day, the soft blue light picks out the forms of trees, branches and grasses creating a sheen, which I have expressed with silver paint. The wood is quiet with dark tones of the trees creating shadows in the pale moonlight, it is soundless and the tones appear a delicate blue.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The painting continues round the sides and it is ready to hang.
