Artistic background

My work is inspired by the natural world, in particular the complexity of flowers.
I create flower paintings in a unique style using watercolour paint and a strong pencil line to make the outline of my flowers stand out, and give the flowers a translucent and radiant quality. The style of my flower paintings is almost botanical but not quite as they occasionally have an abstract quality, therefore my work has a unique look which is slightly different to that of most traditional botanical flower paintings.

I draw my inspiration from traditional Japanese floral art such as that of Hiroshige, the flower watercolours of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and the work of the Dutch Masters, in particular Rachel Ruysch.

I have also ventured into mixed media created with vintage and found objects including gemstones and buttons to create portrayals of animals and landscapes.
My work is held in private collections across the world. My art received its debut in the 2014 MacMillan Art Show, then I exhibited in Edinburgh’s Gallery on the Corner. In 2023 I exhibited work in Studio Two Six One in Glasgow. Currently my work is available through my online Etsy and Redbubble profiles.
