ScunthorpeArtistic background
I am a self-taught artist who has a background as an educator. I have a B.Ed (Hons) and a Masters Degree (MA) in Creative Writing. As well as being a writer, I am part of an art collective based in my hometown, and rent a studio space, where I paint acrylics and larger artworks. I work in watercolours, in an expressionistic way. My preferred subjects are florals, portraits and animals. I also work in acrylics.
I have had work exhibited in galleries in Lincolnshire, including the 2021! Visual Arts Centre and East Yorkshire - the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull.
I divide my time between painting and writing.

The greatness of art is not to find what is common but what is unique.~ Isaac Bashevis Singer
Interests
I enjoy painting, sketching in cafes, writing poetry, non-fiction and short stories. I teach poetry workshops. I love to visit art galleries, and am a member of the Tate. Listening to artists talking about their work is fascinating, and we have monthly open studios at the art centre where I have my studio space, where we discuss our art and and creative practice with other creatives. I perform poetry at spoken word events; love to read and write and currently home educate my son (who has autism). I adore listening to music (I particularly love Yuja Wang, the pianist, and the composers Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Taverner and Prokofiev). My favourite artists are Sarah Lucas, Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Tracey Emin, Banksy, Marina Abramovic, Egon Schiele, Joan Eardley and Jenny Saville. I love expressionist art and modern impressionism. I love art to be alive so that you can feel the artist's energy and personality.
Art, poetry and music are ways in which I channel my inner self. I express things through visuals, whether words or paintings, which I cannot share in conventional ways.
