Artistic background

I am an artist originally from the Wirral, near Liverpool, UK but now live in Orba in the Marina Alta region of Spain, and paint principally in acrylics.

I started painting when I was about 12 but had to give it up whilst studying for my A levels in order to concentrate on science subjects – I ended up reading chemistry at University College, Oxford, qualified as a chartered accountant, and then followed a career in business and finance. I retired and moved to south west France 10 years ago, and moved to Spain in 2020.

I picked up the brush again about 15 years ago, and found that I enjoyed painting more than ever, quickly regaining my confidence and creativity, and have been selling my work successfully ever since, via both physical and online galleries. I have had exhibitions of my work in both the UK and France.

My work consists typically of a mixture of abstract compositions and semi-abstract landscapes, usually in vibrant and contrasting colours. I am particularly interested in colour relationships and their effect on mood, and the juxtaposition of colours. I pay particular attention to composition in order to produce works which are balanced both structurally and in terms of light and colour.

My signature style uses blocks of colour within a framework similar to stained glass, giving a vibrant patchwork effect. I also like to paint in a more open style, but still using bold contrasting colours to create works which immediately attract the viewer. I prefer working in larger formats and am happy to produce similar work on a commission basis.

I hope you enjoy my work.
