Birth of the Mad Hatter Oil

The idea for this piece came from Botticelli's famous Birth of Venus painting. I love this painting but rather than reproducing the whole picture I decided to use the background but create the birth of the mad hatter taken from Alice in wonderland. I have added the March Hare and Alice as a mermaid. I think the ostrich with its head below ground says everything about what is going on, mad!!
Through the relationship between the various elements within the work hints of narrative and representation may emerge.

Executed in good quality oil paints, painted on all sides, and finished with a glaze of gloss varnish to protect against sunlight and dust. It just needs a nail or wall fitting to sit flush against the wall.
