Description
‘I don’t know where the rest go’ is about struggle, confusion and hope. About feeling lost in a world where so many people seem to have it together. About being left wondering where you stand in all of it.
I have been working on this painting on and off for a couple of years so it’s been on a long journey with me (considering that I complete many of my abstract works in a matter of days or weeks).
A few times I’ve thought I’d finished it but I came back to make further changes as it sat in my studio. To me, this is what the painting represents; persevering through doubt and struggling through the difficult times to hopefully arrive at something beautiful. The iterations and layers are symbolic of life, they are also what give the painting it’s character and depth.
There are many dimensions to the work and I used several different mediums to demonstrate the diversity of life and how the abundance of possibilities can lead to confusion and cause you to feel stuck. The intended final emotive response of the piece for the viewer is one of hope. The bright colours suggest that there might be a way out of the confusion and worry, to a place of happiness.
