Winter Calling Oil

Winter Calling is a colourful English winter landscape with snow glimpsed through the last leaves of autumn. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This painting was made after a winter walk I took near the Mayfield area of Sussex where there are many small hills and vales part of the high Weald (formerly a vast ancient forest in the south of England) . This view was one I came across of a farm on a hill with light snow around it seen from a small woodland. Some of leaves were still on the trees in reds and golds as well as the dark green of ivy on the oak tree trunks. I love the contrast of cold colours to warm colours. Like most of my landscape paintings, this is not an unusual subject but I have nevertheless tried to portray it in a unique way so that some of the longing I feel for such places is expressed (yes, I desperately wish I lived in that farm). The painting is on wide edge canvas painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery.
