Description
Designed by Guy Maunsell and built in Gravesend, they were towed to site in the Thames Estuary in 1942. They commanded the entrance to the Thames and were in a good position to shoot down enemy aircraft trying to follow the river into central London. I don't think they saw a lot of action, although there is a record of them sinking an enemy E-boat. Later they were used as pirate radio stations before being decommissioned as unsafe
