These little character studies in paint on canvas are full of surprises. They are painted directly with little or not mixing on the pallet, the brush is allowed to express the artist's feeling and contour of the face. The result is simple, easy flowing and energetic portrait gems that show strong character and vibrant colour.
A certain amount of what artist call happy accident is given the opportunity to reveal such joys of expresstion with paint I enjoy most of all. For this to happen, the artist must forget their years of academic training and allow their subconsence and skill which had been acquired to take over.
The little character studies are painted as quickly as possible to avoid the artist thought taking over and hesitating with the makes, but are corrected automatically as you paint with as few strokes as possible in order to keep the freshness and clarity of every brush mark.
Some are recognisable famous faces, but that was not my first priority or intention, instead I am most concerned with their mood and feelings, the capture of their character that makes each of us individuals.
