Postage Stamp Collage
I used approximately 2800 used postage to create this collage of a girl with blue hair wearing a crazy blouse. Her large questioning eyes stare at her audience from beneath a fringe asking what is wrong with her crazy blouse. Its colourful pattern is juxtaposed against the cool monochrome blues of her hair. The 26p commemorative 1999 millennium stamps features King James’ Bible. By rotating each image I have created flowers with blue petals containing Queen Elizabeth II’s head and windmill like ‘blades’ of trailing ermine decorate the King’s robe. The mosaic of colours within her blouse breathes life into the room. I created this piece to capture the observer’s imagination, to evoke feelings of boldness and freedom. It is a conversational centrepiece, adding dynamic energy to any space.
