Description
Stephen’s love of nostalgia is the inspiration for this particular painting. Depicting one of the oldest Inns in England “Ye Olde Salutation Inn” which dates back to 1240 AD.
Stephen’s here captured a scene from the 1930’s painting the Inn and surrounding buildings as they were during this era.
Taking in the view from St. Nicholas Street, looking up towards Hounds Gate, we can see a lady looking into the window of J.H. Toby’s Ltd established 1929, contemplating her next purchase. The glamorous lady walking down the street alongside the Inn takes a glance at the workman who’s smoking his pipe and reading his paper while awaiting a lift to his place of work.
You can almost hear the sound of the next horse clip clopping along from around the corner adding that long lost beautiful sound of nostalgia to this wonderful scene from the 1930’s
