Description
This painting was inspired by the quiet and secluded corners of Scotland. I wanted to capture a sense of peace and simplicity amongst the trees, stone paths and distant hills. The open gate in the painting symbolises to me an invitation to travel, a passage into tranquility and inner peace. I hope that viewers will feel the same sense of tranquility in the outdoors when they see this work, as the scene seems to invite them to walk along the stone path and leave behind the bustle of everyday life. The blue tones and broad texture of the brush strokes convey the calm of the cloudy skies and the lightness of the air that I observed while painting, evoking a sense of freedom. I chose acrylic on unstretched canvas for this work to capture the raw texture and freshness of each brush stroke. The quick drying nature of acrylic allowed me to capture the spontaneity of the natural landscape and the atmosphere of the moment without losing any of its essential elements. By adopting an impressionist style, I focused not on details but on the emotions that arise among these rural landscapes and distant mountains.
