Description
This is a painting in my new series of smaller pieces depicting close detail from some of Hieronymus Bosch’s most notable works but applying my own colours and art techniques.
This detail is from The Garden of Earthly Delights, right inner wing: Hell. The naked woman with the dice on her head is identified as a prostitute by the candle and jug in her hand and clearly belongs to the milieu of the shady tavern. The hare beside her has been turned into a hunter who has bagged a member of the damned. A devil holds a trictrac board – similar to a backgammon board – menacingly in the air. A man is leaning with his back against an overturned table, his right hand pierced by a dagger. A devil is standing over him and thrusting a sword into his body. The devil wears a shield slung over his shoulder; it bears the image of a skewered and severed hand balancing a dice on two fingers. This corresponds to the system of corporal punishment practised by the courts in the late Middle Ages.
Hieronymus Bosch is known for his paintings of amazing and wonderful pictures. He was one of the first European painters to paint about everyday life. He let the horrors he saw each day spill out onto his painting, which was creative and different for his period.
Perfect for adding a statement piece to living spaces that may create a talking point with visitors.
Executed in excellent quality acrylic paints, painted on all sides, and finished with a glaze of gloss varnish to protect against sunlight and dust. It just needs a nail or wall fitting to sit flush against the wall.
You will receive a signed certificate of authenticity.
The painting is 16 x 12 inches in size and is on stretched canvas.
All art is professionally packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. My works have been shipped worldwide.
About me:
I am a painter, mostly in oils although I have begun to switch between oils and acrylics.
I love to paint, love colours, shapes’, and textures. I love the idea that a different story can be read into each of my paintings and each viewer may interpret a story different to another.
