Description
English Country Path in May is a large semi-abstract landscape oil painting of an English country with blossom trees, bluebells and a white deer. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting shows lots of overlapping layers that hint at tree blossom, bluebells and other wildflowers. The path is dappled as the light shines thought the treeline form the left. A small white female deer stands watching to one side. The feeling of the painting is one of exuberance and abundance and was inspired by a walk I took near High Hurstwood in East Sussex in April. I finished painting it on the first of May - also called Beltane- which is the first official day of Summer according to the Celts. There is a small herd of fallow deer in the area and two of them are white and I sometimes catch them watching me from the trees which is always a thrill. It is hard to paint a scene like this without it looking saccharin and a bit Disney-ish but in reality, I have dulled it down. It really was this uplifting. This is a capture of a beautiful day and I place I love to walk. Painted on deep edge canvas, wide edges, no frame needed, ready to hang.
