Description
Scarlet Elf Cup Wood was inspired by the the memory of seeing this beautiful fiery red fungi in the forest amongst velvet green mosses and branches. While creating this piece I hoped to evoke the serenity of a mystical forest place with the light appearing in the distance. Harnessing elements of impressionism brings to mind a calming scene that invites the viewer to experience nature's peaceful tranquillity. The rich greens interweave with the vibrant reds in a delicate expression forming a tapestry of serenity and freshness that will infuse any space with the peaceful energy of a sylvan dream.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a deep edge canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides and is signed on the front, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.
