Description
Illustration of my poem “Distant was”
His chest burns with colours
Bravery through purgatory honoured
So much glitter for shell shock
now kick back and let your head rot
Sepia pictures of forgotten friends
Their smiling faces bely their ends
We will remember them until we forget
It’s no good listening to the dead
And when the next conflict continues
We will stare uncaring and call it news
The calm of a distant war
Acts of violence committed in law
Just percentages of distant nations
There are no faces in populations
Dusty skies cover the rubble
On tv screens seem quite humble
Until you lay under that sky
You won’t know the fear to die
