Description
Anatomical study of the horse.
Passionate about anatomy and the natural form, Davies modelled this hunter/thoroughbred type horse in a way that exhibits the beauty of its skeletal shape and musculature, where anatomy and artistic interpretation work together in harmony is subtlety exemplified in the airspace between the cannon bone and the digital flexor tendons of the fore and hind legs. This airspace would ordinarily be covered by the skin but is evident here in this study. The point Davies is trying to make in this sculpture is to exhibit and celebrate the anatomical mechanism of the horse hidden from view but revealed here in all its complexities and aesthetic magnificence.
