Description
Inspired by Charles Dickens' Great Expectations opening chapter “dark, flat, wilderness ...intersected with dykes and mounds and gates, with scattered cattle feeding on it”. The brooding marshlands of North Kent in the evening at half light. I have tried to incorporate into this work the sounds and sights of the marshes, popping mud, sparkling water, and wildlife. This is a textural painting which incorporates, oils, acrylic, inks & wax in a rich tapestry of colour and tone to express the unique vegetation and very special light. I have used bronze paint to accentuate the light values. The painting comes alive when underlit at night enhancing all the rich hues of the foreground. Edge painted canvas. A unique piece of artwork.
