This is a piece taken from a 16th Century black and white print, based on a Netherlandish proverb, ‘The Hay runs after the Horse’, and brought to life in colour.
A basket of hay in which a male sits, runs after the horse. In the background, the meaning of the proverb is depicted: here the woman runs after the man, instead of the other way around. It is the man who must take the invitation first in love, not the woman.
Perfect for adding a statement piece to living spaces that may create a talking point with visitors.
Executed in excellent quality acrylic paints, painted on all sides, and finished with a glaze of gloss varnish to protect against sunlight and dust. It just needs a nail or wall fitting to sit flush against the wall.
