This is a totally unique sculpture made out of discarded clear plastic bottles. The sphere was created with 60 squares joined together with silver metal split pins. I used bubble bath and orange juice bottles for the squares as the plastic was slightly stronger (all scrubbed clean first). I then cut out 60 flowers by hand from water bottles which have a very slight blue tint. The flowers were melted and shaped over a flame one by one and then attached to the squares using more split pins or brads. At the centre of each flower is a small blue plastic circle. The photos taken outside show how this artwork catches the light and sparkles like glass in the sun. With the addition of micro LED fairy lights inside the sphere, this beautiful sculpture is transformed into a magical, ethereal light. These pretty lights are inexpensive to replace (E bay/ Amazon) and the warm white shown in the dark photos are included with button batteries installed. It's unlikely that I'll ever make another one quite the same as cutting out all the flowers proved ridiculously labour intensive but I love how it turned out. It looks stunning and it's all made out of trash!

After working as an illustrator and textile designer I became a self employed artist in 1990. I had a regular stall at Granary Wharf and the Corn Exchange in Leeds, where I enjoyed great success selling my unique art. This was mostly sculpture made out of wire and EVA (plastic/resin). Many of my ...
