The Old Wooden Gate, Derbyshire
An Oil painting of a dilapidated wooden gate overlooking the rolling hillside and small town of Hathersage
The patchwork of small fields is usually divided by dry stone walls, some dating back to the Bronze and Iron Age.
I am lucky enough to have friends who have lived there most of their lives who can take me on amazing walks and tell me fascinating historical and quirky facts about the area. This painting drew reference from a photo I took at the top of a hill overlooking Hathersage, with Shatton Moor in the distance.
Painted using alla prima technique with a combination of brush and palette knife.
The 100% pure cotton stretched canvas has been gesso primed and the painting lightly varnished with Winsor & Newton Picture Varnish.
The sides are painted blue and the work can be hung unframed. Picture hanging fittings are in place.
