This is an original oil painting adapted from a WW2 monochrome photograph of Lt Col David Stirling with the patrol led by Lt MacDonald in the western desert in 1943. The challenge was to transform a black and white (B&W) photo into a colour painting requiring research some of the details within the painting such as the medal ribbons on the chest of Lt MacDonald and the correct uniform and vehicle colours. I have been licenced by the Imperial War Museum to use their original B&W negative E021338 as a reference for the painting and copyright is reserved. A donation will be made to the SAS Association on the sale of the painting.
The painting (61x76cm) is in a brushed gold coloured wooden frame (90x75cm) and was originally exhibited at the Bishop's Palace in Hereford in 2010
W 90.17 cm x H 74.93 cm
